STU knows that the rental market is just one area where tenants in Sheffield are suffering. All too often, poor housing goes hand in hand with other issues of low income, health inequality, immigration status and the hostile environment.

Our members stand in solidarity with other groups in Sheffield working to tackle inequality in the city.

Unlike a trade union, our members are linked by the communities they live and rent in. It's in all of our interests when someone in our community is suffering to remove that suffering and improve the area for everyone.

We're all part of the union: we all contribute to our community and we all benefit.

Tenants are badly served by an expensive and needlessly bureaucratic system. When we need repairs undertaking, unjust fees challenging, or unfair evictions resisting, it's much more effective to take action into our own hands.

STU work together to take direct action against the structures that keep tenants down. We employ and upskill each other so we don't have to rely on a flawed system. We're all we've got!
